Curator Note:

In the years since we published Les's Memoir of his technical career along with the appropriate chapters of his self-published book, Les has lived the retirement years of his life. He has carefully recorded this period of decisions on senior living facilities and locations and family considerations. There is no Hewlett Packard or Compact technology remaining, but some of the decision criteria and process for retirement life might be useful to others. And there is some remaining humor left in Les. In one incident, Susan, his wife, had self published a book on her own life history, and discovered later from a relative that her grandfather who lived in Oakland, made a weekly ferry trip into San Francisco in his best apparel. Her original text reported that his announced purpose was high-minded opera-going, but the real story was that: "He was visiting the ladies of pleasure in a certain part of the city." This downloadable Chapter 12 is an easy read, and enjoyable.
