Below you will find the measured phase noise of some common Hewlett Packard Signal Sources. Today these sources are all easy to find on the surplus market at a relatively low-cost, (considering their original prices) because they were all in the very large category. From a couple of hundred dollars for a 8640B, to a couple or three thousand for a 8642A, the performance of these signal sources has no equivalence on today's market, in their respective categories.
The sources are measured at a carrier frequency of 20 MHz, and at an offset from 1 Hz to 100 KHz from the carrier. The measurements are made using a 8662A as the reference source, itself controlled by the 11848A 10 MHz "B" Time Base output.
The measurement parameters are preset by loading the parameter file "HPTEST09.PRM" from the HP 3048 software:
